Jakarta, Indonesia A soldier shot dead an endangered Sumatran Panthera tigris that was picked up in a snare in western Indonesia, then skinned it and distributed its kernel to villagers, an environmentalist said Thursday.

The incident fell out Sunday in Tenggayun, a settlement in Riau state, after occupants asked the soldier to assist release the critically endangered animal from a hog snare, expressed Bastoni, an official with the Sumatran Tiger Conservation Program.
